From January 18th-24th 2010, Rheintriadem: the second DESIGNERS FAIR – part of “PASSAGEN” 2010 – Interior Design Week in Cologne.
From January 18th-24th 2010, the second DESIGNERS FAIR will take place in RheinTriadem, Cologne. Rather than showing the most famous names in the business, the DESIGNERS FAIR young interior and furniture design exhibition consciously seeks to bring together its most exciting new discoveries. The first DESIGNERS FAIR 2009 concentrated on young German designers, and while the emphasis will stay on them in 2010, the exhibition is also open to international talent.
With “I am furniture”, Eindhoven’s Bas van Raay takes radiators off the wall, but the selfsame wall might come in handy for the Stuttgart Posse Maigrau, if they need a place to lean their lamp “Luca”. Limpalux plays with materials, creating lamps from paper discs, while the marriage of clay and wood gives form to the furniture of Florian Munter. Katharina Pawlik celebrates the rebirth of recycled objects in her series “La Basurita” - inspired by a visit to Peru, and a chair by Oldenburg’s Confused Directions gets its name from the Hungarian word for “cave”.
Apart from design objects, furniture and interior design ideas like these, the exhibition will – for the first time – also feature a small range of products from other disciplines, such as fashion and accessories. A specially put-together programme rounds off the voyage of discovery: Presentations, talks and panel discussions invite you to think. For example, the speakers will go into plagiarism, recycling design and the fine art of making money. Tailored concept rooms for schools and design consortia provide meeting places for inspired minds, and an affiliated shop gives the visitor even more diverting ways to spend their time. Let alone the parties: The DJ collective “Supernode” will send good vibrations provided by the likes of Señor 45, Marcus Sur, Sunny the dancer and jiri m.r. katter aka jazzo.
After the first year’s runaway success, as over 20,000 visitors filled the Rhine-side venue, the organisers have increased the amount of space available to exhibitors. A space of approximately 4,000m² will house new products from over 60 interior and furniture designers. Once again, DESIGNERS FAIR will be part of the “PASSAGEN” event in 2010. As a complement to Cologne’s International Furnishing Show, the “PASSAGEN” Interior Design Week Cologne has established itself, over the last 20 years, as one of the city’s biggest design events: innovative interior ideas are present in selected showrooms, galleries, institutions and unusual spaces across the whole of Cologne. With the DESIGNERS FAIR, “PASSAGEN” utilises the potential of a spatially-concentrated show for young designers – at RheinTriadem, right on the banks of the Rhine.
